Franco Colapinto was born in Pilar, Argentina, in 2003. He moved to Europe as a teenager, won the Spanish Formula 4 title in 2019 and raced in Formula 3 and Formula 2 with MP Motorsport as part of the Williams academy.
Williams promoted him mid-way through 2024, making him the first Argentine to start a Grand Prix since 2001, and he scored points in only his second race, in Baku. He moved to Alpine as reserve for 2025 and was handed a race seat from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix onwards. In 2026 he drives for Alpine alongside Pierre Gasly.
