Mercedes first raced in Formula 1 in 1954 and 1955, when Juan Manuel Fangio won the title in both seasons, mostly at the wheel of its cars. The current works team, based in Brackley, began as British American Racing in 1999, became Honda and then Brawn GP, which won both championships in 2009, before Mercedes bought it for 2010. From 2014 to 2021 it won eight consecutive constructors’ titles, with Lewis Hamilton taking six drivers’ crowns and Nico Rosberg one.
