Carlos Sainz was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1994, the son of two-time world rally champion Carlos Sainz. He won the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2014 and made his F1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2015, then raced for Renault and McLaren, taking his first podium in Brazil in 2019.
At Ferrari from 2021 to 2024 he won four Grands Prix, starting at Silverstone in 2022. He joined Williams in 2025 and scored third places in Baku and Qatar. He races for Williams in 2026 alongside Alex Albon.
